And I Still Haven't Found What I'm Lookin For
Maybe I should go into more detail of what my Georgia Series is all about. As I haven't done that yet and I've alluded to it several times.
The Georgia series is about exploring the feelings of backwoods spirituality. This other side of Atlanta that I see, where it is culturally more like swampy Louisiana than like some sort of southern mecca. There's a thick feeling of Voodoo here.

An Open Letter to my 35mm
oh you, Minolta maxxum 7000 35mm, a classic slr camera. you were at the height of technology 25 years ago. and you are still known for your soft and dreamy images. Sony tried to woo you away from me, dangled a carrot of $200 off their digital slr if only I gave you up. But, I'm no sell out. like a teenager's beloved first car; I will ride you until the wheels fall off. Until your shutter closes too slowly and your flash unit no longer communicates with your body. Until your batteries corrode within your housing. until you become completely unreliable... and when no one in the first world develops film anymore......even then I will still keep you safely tucked away on my bookshelf. Keep you there as a reminder of when your entire photographic process wasn't whittled down to an iphone app.
love,
Monty.

Fresh Flicks and Old Kicks.
These were my once beloved, still a little adored Reebok freestyle sneakers. I would wear them more but they don't look that good under skirts and dresses and that's all I seem to wear these days.
So lets put on our classics and have a little dance shall we? These images were inspired by a couple of things. 1) my weird fascination with the bottom half of the body in art. How much can you tell about a person without showing their face? 2) Macro photography: its usually better close up 3) Texture. Touch.

I ran out to main street, cuz that's where the dream goes.
Doin some still lifes for no reason.
So it seems I've got my fingers in a lot of pies. The georgia series still in progress (it needs a real name), the moody band series now renamed the more poetic "Spirit in the Dark" is being trimmed of its fat. And my lightboxes are waiting to be built and painted. There's also an anima/animus series that is waiting in the wings, waiting on me to start. I just need money money money.

where am i? why can't i just get it together?
This is the first time that I've been brave enough to take my nicest camera out to a party. I don't know why i say brave, i must've been on crack to think this was ok. All of my greatest fears were confirmed. Yes i did get beer on the lens. Yes i did get knocked over with camera in hand. Yes i did almost drop it. Moral of the story.....parties were made for toy cameras, not real ones. realtalk.

Adrienne and Kristen and cameras.
Kristen insisted on armpit hair. she wanted more and more like patti smith. I had to thin it out a little in post though cuz it was starting to distract from her face. and that's real.
New Portraits. Yes, I do portraits too. This one was a collaboration really. She insisted on neutrality and green nail polish. I was happy to oblige. It was taken impromptu at a birthday party last week.

Wait 'til I get my money right, then you can't tell me nothin.
Recently, tried to dip my pinky toe into the shallow waters of more marketable yet less inspired photography. I like to call it dentist office art. Gross, I know, but how else do you get your art bought by dentists? and doctors and other people who have the disposable income to buy art? I love my friends and I appreciate that they like my work but...y'know, my friends don't have any money to buy it right now. so where does that leave me? Broke as shit, that's where. But temper tantrum aside, I may have a new series on my hands:

Land is for the living
In Atlanta, there is a very old cemetery filled with confederate soldiers and free masons....a LOT of free masons. I stand by my original statement. Land is for the living, why would I get buried? Just to be desecrated by a parking garage 500 years later. No thank you, spread my ashes across whatever you feel best represented me in life. My body won't matter anymore. With that said, I find cemeteries a great place to contemplate the universe.
